i finally watched it. the video that all my friends have been posting on facebook. the one about a child’s speech to new babies coming into the world. i am by no definition a web surfer, so a new video or site is usually discovered by a friend’s recommendation. i liked the video so much, what this child and script writer had to say, that i have included here those words. take a moment to smile and feel good about the world.
oh, ooh whoa, the sweetest thing
i, like most folks, had a bit of a time adjusting to the lesser hours of sleep with the arrival of daylight savings time. my monday this week wasn’t too horrendous, but that sluggish feeling was quite thick throughout the office.
i had eaten my lunch that afternoon and found my way back to my desk, ready to tackle the rest of my day. my co-workers philip and amy returned soon thereafter and presented me with the sweetest token: a thin mint cupcake from gigi’s! it was the kindest and most thoughtful gesture. they were being kind simply because they wanted to be. perhaps that is something we could all strive to do a little more often.
the key to eating alone
what is the key to eating alone and actually enjoying it? how about the key to being a single, solo, uno? if you ask me, or rather if i ask myself, the key to these things is being confident, not being pre-occupied with other people’s perceptions. the key is not conforming to what society, your friends, family, and peers expect of you. we are all on different paths with different destinations. it is highly unrealistic to think that your formula works, or even applies to me, to us, to the single people.
today i am not going to perch atop a soapbox and list reasons a, b, and c of why single people “have it better.” i don’t even want to make that argument. today i just am going to share my thoughts. after all, this is the kelsey v blog.
get happy
“happiness is not so much in having as sharing. we make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”

introducing mr. jefferson
when we went to washington, dc last december, i insisted we visit the jefferson memorial before we leave; it’s one of my favorites! this memorial isn’t necessarily out of the way, but it isn’t exactly near a whole lot either; it sits in west potomac park, across the way from the white house, where third president thomas jefferson once lived. there were plenty of folks involved in the creation of this memorial, including designer john russell pope (who also architected the national archives building), philadelphia builder john mcshain, and sculptors rudulph evans and adolph a. weinman. the pantheon-inspired building was completed in 1943, and the 19-foot, 10,000 pound bronze statue was then added in 1947.
eric, kyle, kari, and i made the brisk trek over to see him and snapped this picture. I LOVE IT.
new york city – day 3
well, my weekend getaway to new york city ends on day 3, but that doesn’t mean it was any less fun! although i had a flight to catch at four that afternoon, we still enjoyed a lovely day in the local neighborhood of chelsea.
new york city – day 2
day 2 in the big apple was actually quite relaxing, which probably isn’t the first thing one might think when this city comes to mind. i was reveling in the fact that although i was in new york city, i was just hanging out with friends, spending time catching up. what a way to enjoy a weekend!
savage pizza – atlanta, ga
this week we hosted our largest nrw yet with 13 attendees at savage pizza! yes, we ventured back to the neighborhood of little five points once again. (you can also conveniently find them in decatur!) this pizza joint is honest and inspired and has been a favorite of the locals since 1990. did we like it as much as them though? as one of our diners so simply put it, “it was pretty neat.”
new york city – day 1
last weekend i visited my dear friends grant and leah up in the big apple. i hadn’t been to new york in a couple of years, and i found it was time for another visit. i’ll update the blog with my daily ventures, so check back in to see about all the fun i had. day 1 begins here!
summertime in march
last night i was looking around for an easy dinner recipe, something that required limited pots, pans, and clean-up. as i was poking around on ree drummond’s site, i came upon her version of pasta salad. it was a wonderful choice on a cool march evening! i paired it with oven-baked italian sausage and had the nicest meal while watching the women of the bachelor tear apart sweet juan pablo. “it’s okay!”
