although i never exceled in my english and literature classes throughout school, i really do enjoy reading for pleasure. after i graduated from college, i found i again had time to read for myself, without any expectation for reports or exams afterwards. i did a quick search online and saw that a local book club met at the barnes & noble down the road. i found out what the fiction forum was reading that august of 2010, and although i didn’t finish the book in time for the meeting, they invited me to join them at the café table with open arms.

will you be my valentine?
i do not have a special someone to spend this valentine’s day with, so i’m sharing it with my office-mates and all of you! these sweet little cupcakes are one of my favorites and are a big hit with my friends. i made the cupcakes per the recipe but added red food coloring to the frosting so that they would be a little more festive. enjoy!
when it snows, she will bake
all the snow and ice down here in atlanta has kept me cooped up in my condo. thank goodness i made a trip to kroger beforehand! the last three days i’ve been by myself since our office has been closed. i’ve been able to accomplish quite a bit for work and for the house, but there’s only so much one person can do. so! i decided i needed to do something fun and bake a cake. this sour cream streusel cake is a recipe from my aunt cindy out in los angeles. enjoy!
almost risotto
tonight i was jonesing for something delicious and hearty, something healthy for me, too. i came upon this recipe, a risotto remake, through active.com, since i sometimes like to call myself a runner. the dish was flavorful and, as i mentioned, quite hearty. it makes a very large potful, so you will have plenty for your family or enough for leftovers all week long. i served mine with pork tenderloin, a great pairing to round out this meal. enjoy!
e-b-g-d-a-e
as you may already know, i love music. i love everything about it. the concerts, the videos, the cd’s (yes, i do still buy compact discs). i grew up playing piano and french horn, both of which i never mastered but enjoyed to the fullest. i do not own a piano, because where would i put it in my cozy condo? and i do not own a french horn, because, well, because i’m not a professional musician. so, how was i to satisfy my thirst for some kind of personal musical talent? my friend nathan was quick to swoop in and provide the answer: a guitar! he owned a couple and played himself and was thrilled at the idea of having someone with which he could share this hobby. like most times, i didn’t need a whole lot of convincing.
poof!
i found this lovely little ottoman, poof, perch, settee, seat-thing last weekend and just had to have it. my old orange footstool was much too worn. it was time for a replacement.
red velvet cupcakes
today is my co-worker ohhee’s last day with the company. she is moving on to a new and exciting beginning with her fiancé sam in los angeles, california. she is certainly going to be missed, so in bittersweet honor of her departure today, i specially made her requested red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting.
the cake batter is delicious, as is the frosting. the recipe yields 30 cupcakes, so i might recommend doubling the frosting so that they can be generously topped. enjoy!
mix and match
as i travel through the “real world,” fashion continues to become a very interesting and fun part of my life. this morning while i was picking out my office outfit, these two pieces whispered, “wear us together.” i did, and it was a wonderful idea.
mixing the blue polka dot print blouse with the houndstooth skirt is a quirky but intriguing match. the polka dots are subtle enough that they are not overwhelming, but they bring some extra interest to the outfit overall. i am usually a tad hesitant when putting prints together, but i thought these just looked so cool together. i threw on some black tights, black pumps, silver jewelry, and out the door i went!

i might be obsessed
i grew up watching my two sporty brothers in all of their athletic endeavors. there were all-star baseball seasons, basketball games, and post-victory snacks. so i made it through my middle and high school days as somewhat of a tomboy. umbro running shorts and hand-me-down t-shirts were my staples. it wasn’t until i graduated from college and into young adulthood did i discover my personal style. it was somewhere in my mid-20s that i uncovered the wonderful world of nail polish.
