for my 25th birthday last summer, i wanted to have a photo shoot, video shoot, hootin’ and hollerin’ time with my friends. we got some wacky outfits, a few cameras (thanks, nathan and eric!), about 20 bags of cheetos, 10 bottles of champagne and let the magic happen.

as you may already know, i am not much of an athlete. in fact, i stopped playing sports nearly 15 years ago because they just weren’t for me. however, i am quite the sports fan. baseball, football, basketball. in that order. as someone who is a sports fan and enjoys some kind of physical activity, i made the new year’s resolution last month that so many of us do: go to the gym more. get fit. get healthy. get in shape. for me the hope is that this journey through a physical transformation (however dramatic or not) will just simply increase my quality of life. i feel well, the doctor tells me i am healthy, but i know there is something a little more i can do.
moreland avenue. south moreland avenue. i mean pretty south, below interstate 20. that’s where delia’s chicken sausage stand is, and that is where we were last week when we had the most fun new restaurant wednesday to date.
i know darius rucker made it ultra famous, but i first heard “wagon wheel” by old crow medicine show, who finished and recorded the incomplete, original version written by bob dylan. this song has many memories of mine tied to it, and i cannot help but smile whenever i hear it on the radio. i recently declared “wagon wheel” my go-to karaoke song, so if you find me at the bar with a microphone in my hand, be prepared.
although i never exceled in my english and literature classes throughout school, i really do enjoy reading for pleasure. after i graduated from college, i found i again had time to read for myself, without any expectation for reports or exams afterwards. i did a quick search online and saw that a local book club met at the barnes & noble down the road. i found out what the fiction forum was reading that august of 2010, and although i didn’t finish the book in time for the meeting, they invited me to join them at the café table with open arms.

my group of friends is starting to become co-mingled, folks from college and folks from work. with that, we have different allegiances to our alma maters, the main rivalry being between uga and georgia tech. a heated conversation came up at lunch last week over which town, atlanta or athens, is more fun to explore and enjoy. so, to give both cities a fighting chance, we decided we would spend a saturday in atlanta and then a weekend in athens. things started with a day in atlanta this past saturday. let’s see how things shook out!
i do not have a special someone to spend this valentine’s day with, so i’m sharing it with my office-mates and all of you! these sweet little cupcakes are one of my favorites and are a big hit with my friends. i made the cupcakes per the recipe but added red food coloring to the frosting so that they would be a little more festive. enjoy!
all the snow and ice down here in atlanta has kept me cooped up in my condo. thank goodness i made a trip to kroger beforehand! the last three days i’ve been by myself since our office has been closed. i’ve been able to accomplish quite a bit for work and for the house, but there’s only so much one person can do. so! i decided i needed to do something fun and bake a cake. this sour cream streusel cake is a recipe from my aunt cindy out in los angeles. enjoy!
as of last thursday, the world has turned its athletic eye to the country of russia as the olympics began. the opening ceremonies on friday night were spectacular and set the scene for the 22nd celebration of the winter games.
