according to michael kors’ 2016 fall catalog, the colors plum and moss/hunter green are in this season. well, i wasn’t ready to splurge on a fabulous handbag or garment (at least not just yet), but i figured i could get creative with how i incorporate these colors into my fall look.
yesterday i was out and about running errands, including a quick stop into ulta for some must-haves and want-to-haves. i made my way to the nail care area and did a couple laps around the shelves. the lovely thing about nail polish is that it comes in nearly any shade of the rainbow you can imagine. this undeniable fact had me hopeful that i’d find just the shade i was seeking. to no one’s surprise, there aren’t nearly as many green shades of polish as you might find pinks as reds, but i did at least find what i wanted: a hunter green called front runner by opi. when i first brushed it on my nails, it almost appeared blue-green. but in the right light, it’s the excellent fall green i was wanting, especially out in the natural sun.
now that i had my deep green fix, i enlisted the help of an employee to find a plum lipstick. she showed me several samples, some too dark and others too pink. we finally came upon, though, the one i would take home with me: buxom’s matte big & sexy bold gel lipstick in vampy plum. the matte is ultra chic, i think, and the color is very sensual against my rather light complexion. i’m in love with this stuff already! oh, and did i mention that the lipstick case is magnetic? when i put the cap back on and realized it, i swear i died and went to makeup heaven.
ps: if anyone finds they’re in a splurging mood, i’m all kinds of obsessed with mk’s faux-fur peacoat and the mercer tote in cinder. just saying! 😀
with most of us home in birmingham for the holiday, it was a no-brainer that getting pedicures yesterday at the nearby foxy nails & spa salon would be a family affair. dad and clark needed their nails trimmed and mom and i needed new color on our toes.
with dozens of chairs on either side of the salon, the front desk attendant quickly seated us at four together over on the right. we all slipped off our shoes and slid back into the comfy massage chairs.
clarky boy is not amused.
dad doesn’t get pedicures often, so it was a sight in and of itself to watch him get the massage going at exactly the right speed in exactly the right spot. i’ll let your imagination run wild with this scene, for we hardly are ever a quiet bunch!
once our feet were soaking in the piping hot water, our technicians got to work quickly. mom, clark, and i indulged in the spa pedicure while dad went the ultra relaxation route with the foxy deluxe pedicure. how fancy! nails were clipped, legs were massaged, feet were rubbed, and we all slowly sank into pedicure heaven. see how happy everyone is when we’re all together?!
technician derek finished off my pedicure with a couple sparkling coats of opi’s let your love shine – i just had to have something glamorous for ringing in the new year! we wiggled my flip flops back on and i went to sit under the dryer so that the perfect pedicure could settle. (i apologize for the poor picture quality – it was a balmy december day in the ‘ham!).
since dad’s pedicure package included some more treatments, he enjoyed the last few minutes of pampering while clark got a quick manicure to clean up his fingernails. i’m sure you can picture the mounds of fun we all had as we chatted and people watched and enjoyed some good family time together.
after about an hour of fun, our time at the salon was all done. dad’s feet looked fresh, clark’s hands were rejuvenated, and mom’s toes were prettily polished in opi’s ro-man-ce on the moon! all in all, a lovely afternoon that, as usual with our family, was anything but average.
okay, it’s no secret that i have a small love for nail polish. i mean, my whole medicine cabinet is full of nearly every shade you can imagine. i just cannot help myself when i walk down the cosmetics aisle. a new color is such an exciting thing and can cheer you right up! all my ladies out there can certainly relate. all these shades just remind of “colors of the wind” in pocahontas, which means i just cannot leave this post written without this video to bring back all your childhood disney memories. you’re welcome.
anyway! the other night after dinner at bua thai in town brookhaven (which, by the way, might be some of the best thai and sushi i have found in town – it was top notch!), sarah and i took a stroll through publix so i could pick up ingredients for rocky road pie. i also needed some new facewash, so down the beauty aisle we went and, oh, wouldn’t you know it! a new nail polish jumped right out at me! it was the revlon colorstay gel envy line, and the eggplant-plum color called “hold ’em” caught my eye instantly. it’s a great semi-neutral, just different enough from a brown or nude to get someone’s attention but not so bright or pastel to be a little too much. the color is rich and saturated and hasn’t chipped in the couple of days that i have had it on my nails. it will definitely be a keeper, and i suspect i might be coming back for more.
something else i want to highlight for you all are the lovely bracelets i’m sporting in this picture. first off, i have my classic alex and ani monogram bracelet that my sweet cousin hannah got for me last summer. along with it are a couple styles from the stella & dot spring collection. the horseshoe wishing bracelet is just so dainty and unique that i couldn’t resist. also there is the amelie sparkle bracelet, which isn’t particularly my style, but i liked the idea of the clear stones with the gold accent; lets me mix and match it with some other pieces. gotta spice things up every once in a while!
